Federal agriculture authorities stated on Saturday that nutrition assistance payments under one of the countryâs largest support systems are not going out during the coming month amid the persistent government funding lapse.
The funding lapse was in three and a half weeks as officials revealed the news, which followed appeals by more than two hundred Democratic representatives asking the department to access reserve accounts to pay for next month's benefits.
âUltimately, funds are depleted,â officials announced. âNow, there will be no benefits issuedâ on 1 November.
Tens of millions of people depend on the regular assistance, according to the USDA. Some regions, such as one southwestern state, dependence on this assistance reaches a significant portion of citizens.
A memo obtained by journalists revealed that USDA officials would not access emergency reserves for November food benefits.
Congressional leaders are still at odds regarding how to fund and reopen the federal government.
Comments by the director at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities noted that the administration could have acted to take earlier action to avoid interruption in payments.
âThey had the ability and responsibility made moves earlier to be prepared to utilize available money,â the statement continued. âRather, it may choose not to use them in an effort to gain political advantageâ while GOP lawmakers attempt to influence Democratic senators to approve a funding package to restart the federal government.
State leaders from two affected states activated emergency protocols recently to free up resources for hunger relief expecting nutrition assistance payments stopping next month.
