The Details Known Regarding the Those Lost of the Bondi Terror Attack

No fewer than 16 individuals perished and over 40 were wounded when gunmen fired on a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian police have labeled a act of terrorism.

As of the newest reports, officials have stated the number of fatalities is 16, which includes one of the alleged attackers. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were transported to medical facilities.

Those who died are still awaiting formally identified, but investigators think their ages are from 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.

Described as a father-of-five, he was the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and friends described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their youngest child in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.

She told the events before the attack, saying they had been standing together when the gunfire erupted. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.

The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having endured immense hardship in their childhood. They had later relocated to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

The French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

Officially, a senior official declared that France shared the grief of his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must combat,” the statement continued.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was also killed in the incident, as per reports referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

From the 42 people taken to hospital, many are still receiving treatment, with a number in serious condition. The injured comprise two officers who responded to the attack.

A wounded man is a bystander who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the attackers. Hailed as a local hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Reports indicate he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.

In a message, he recounted the scene as an “horrific scene,” but also noted the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he felt it was a “miracle” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the attack. He said he listened to “a large number” of shots.

“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
