The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure notified staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had shown the need for a more defined vision.
The president stated that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address gamer demands.
This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Here is the entire message from the president's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a clearer brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our players.
The belief in this project increases every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the new Studio Head of the team. After several months of discussions, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
His leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter field is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most well-known titles in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving Ben next week. We are all excited to persist seeing the progress of the game in the months to ahead.
David
