The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:

  • Each team has only eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers looking for different methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Input

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
