The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple agonizing backstories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.
This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by artist the talented musician. This piece from the official score of that title, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will love its inclusion.
Personally, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.
Of course, the creators has stated that the series will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
