The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
