Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in implementing video review technology.
Replay technology will make its debut at Wimbledon this year.
Players are granted the ability to challenge certain rulings from the official, following the protocol already in place at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
The new system will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This move arrives only a season following the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which effectively ended the longstanding role of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine other situations, such as:
- If a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
- Possible interference end of a rally.
Importantly, there will be no cap on the amount of reviews a player can request.
A Recent Example
An illustrative case occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire watched a replay and ruled the player was guilty of interference, granting the rally to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
This technology are not new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system in place at every one of its events.
Additional Innovations
A further innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This solves instances where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
